This November marks a special milestone for North Harbour Parkrun as it celebrates its 7th anniversary. Launched on November 23rd, 2016, by the passionate and community-minded Connie Isherwood, this event has grown to become a beloved part of the local landscape. Parkrun, a global movement that began 20 years ago, is now held in 22 countries, but there’s something uniquely special about the North Harbour edition.

Connie, a local resident and seasoned parkrun organiser, was the driving force behind bringing parkrun to North Harbour. Having successfully established the Central Lakes parkrun, Connie was approached by Peter Lightbody, the Director of North Harbour development at the time, to start a new event in this growing community. Living just down the road, Connie embraced the opportunity to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all ages and abilities.

What sets North Harbour Parkrun apart is its authentic cross-country course. Unlike many other parkruns that take place on paved footpaths, North Harbour’s route meanders through paddocks and along the river, offering a true off-road experience. Runners and walkers alike can enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, with birdlife aplenty and even the occasional pelican in the lagoon. And yes, there are cows too, adding a rustic charm to the course.

For Connie, the allure of parkrun goes beyond the physical benefits. It’s a chance to connect with others, enjoy the outdoors, and challenge oneself, all while being part of a supportive and friendly community. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking to stay fit, parkrun is a fantastic way to meet others, boost your physical and mental well-being, and simply have fun.

North Harbour Parkrun is more than just a race; it’s a social event where entire families can come together every Saturday morning for a free 5km run, walk, or jog. And for those who prefer to take it easy, the Heritage Park at the start/finish line offers a peaceful place to relax and explore the history of the area after the run.

NORTH HARBOUR PARKS

With seven parks currently open at North Harbour including an all-abilities park, each park has something unique to offer from exercise equipment to off leash dog play areas. Each park is also designed to connect through bike and walking tracks as part of the North Harbour masterplan.

North Harbour Homes will be operating out of the North Harbour’s Sales and Information Centre and Display Village. The sales office is open seven days a week, 10am-5pm, located on the corner of Buckley Road and Fraser Drive in Burpengary East. With Belinda onboard Mon-Fri, 10am to 5pm.
