Get Set for Summer in our Beautiful Moreton Bay Region!

With festive songs blasting out in the shops, kids getting ready for their last few weeks of school and the weather beginning to warm up…it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

North Harbour Parkrun

And, while every season is beautiful in our lovely Moreton Bay Region, summer is particularly packed with awesome events in the great outdoors. We’ve put together a few ideas to get you out and about in the local region, starting with the upcoming Burpengary Christmas Spectacular.

The local community in our beautiful Moreton Bay Region is extremely important to us and we like to give back when possible with donations, sponsorship and a helping hand where needed. Christmas is the perfect time to do just that and for the fourth year we’re sponsoring the main stage at the Burpengary Christmas Spectacular which is being held on Saturday, December 2nd from 3pm-8pm.

The Spectacular is a great family-friendly event with free rides, entertainment, fireworks and lots of Christmas shopping opportunities. Don’t forget to pack your picnic blankets and chairs for carols by candlelight and look out for the North Harbour team in our bright blue tent. We’ll be giving away lots of goodies and hope to see you there. For more information on the Burpengary Christmas Spectacular head to their Facebook page.

One of the most special and unique Moreton Bay events is located at Old Petrie Town where visitors can discover the magic of the festive season at the ‘Do You Bee-lieve’ Christmas Wonderland Exhibition.Created by artists Jule Barten and Chris Boston, ‘Do You Bee-lieve’ is a follow-on exhibition for the ‘Farewell Lollipop Land, the Journey Begins’ which was held at Old Petrie Town last year. The 2017 exhibition sees the two hand-sculpted dragons tie the knot in a romantic wedding ceremony, held in a mysterious enchanted forest! This is a one-of-a-kind exhibition, as the artists change the exhibits and layout every year.

Sunday 9.00am-3.00pm

Roadworks to Fix Right Turn Issue Complete on Uhlmann Road

This week North Harbour completed construction on the Uhlmann Road West / Bruce Highway intersection. The aim of these works was to improve the safety and efficiency of this intersection and make it both easier and safer to get to North Harbour, particularly for those residents who are travelling from the south.

Project Director Peter Lightbody said; “The North Harbour development team met the full cost of the intersection construction with no funding for these works from either the Council or State Government. Although it was an existing traffic problem area, we identified this as a problem we’d like to rectify to improve liveability at North Harbour and for our neighbours in the local region.”

The works, which were approved by the Department of Main Roads, have created a safer intersection which is now controlled by traffic lights and includes a dedicated right turn lane to access the highway to travel north.

Mr Lightbody added; “We thank everyone for their patience during these works and are pleased to deliver a much safer and efficient intersection for all North Harbour and surrounding residents.”

North Harbour parkrun starts November 25th

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the trial parkrun ahead of the launch on November 25th.

The North Harbour parkrun coordinator is Connie Isherwood.

“I have been Co-Event Director of Central Lakes parkrun since its inception (December 2015) and have seen that community develop into a vibrant, inclusive and encouraging one. People meet together, create and foster new friendships and discover a sense of belonging and purpose. Everyone who participates or volunteers always enjoys parkrun. It quite simply changes lives.

“This is what I want for North Harbour parkrun and for the local community. The best thing is, you don’t have to be a seasoned runner to take part. Young and old, walkers and runners. It’s all about your own personal health and fitness journey.

“North Harbour parkrun showcases the history and beautiful natural parklands in the area and will encourage people to take their first step towards a healthier lifestyle and to engage within the local community.”

The North Harbour parkrun is a free off-road run, located in the future public park along the beautiful Caboolture River.  It’s a great chance to experience this environment as well as the Morayfields heritage precinct.

Yoga in the Park, Parkrun, & More at North Harbour Community Events

One of the things of which we’re most proud at North Harbour is our friendly and welcoming North Harbour Community. And, whilst we’ve done our best as part of our masterplan to foster a community atmosphere, all the credit goes to our awesome residents for making our neighbourhood such a great place to live.

Kids playing

Over 800 residents now call North Harbour home. Our community is thriving, and we have a Facebook group run by one of our first residents called the North Harbour Community group which is a great way to catch up on the latest news and community info online.

Many families meet for picnics one of our lovely parks, have birthday parties, catch up at the end of the school day or join Cam for one of his fitness Bootcamps. The parks offer top of the range play equipment for both littlies and bigger kids, the Village Park has free Wi-Fi and Reflections Park is located at the Raff Creek eco-corridor which offers plenty of space for kids to ride scooters and bikes.

We also have regular free events to welcome our new residents (and of course our visitors) such as Street Parties, Movies in the Park and Picnics. And, on moving day, new residents are invited to drop into the Sales & Information Centre to pick up their welcome gift of a free takeaway pizza meal from Divine Pizza and Pasta. We figured this was the best gift as it doesn’t involve having to go through moving boxes to find cutlery!

First Residents Wall

The First Residents Wall is a very special commemorative wall located at the Village Park. At the official opening of the Village Park we invited soon-to-be residents in our first stage to take part in our handprint wall. The residents made handprints which have been made into tiles and used to create this little piece of neighbourhood history.

Heritage Precinct

The history and heritage of our site is a big part of the North Harbour Community and is a key component in our masterplan. Works have now begun on our Heritage Precinct which is a joint project between The Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology and North Harbour and is centred around the heritage–listed archaeological remains of the “Moray Fields” settlement.

The North Harbour Heritage Precinct, which will take 2 years to develop, will cost over $3M with $1,535,062 of funds coming from the Federal Government through a funding agreement with the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology. Funding is through the Community Development Grants programme, provided through the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

The $1,535,062 Grant will be matched by North Harbour and The Abbey Museum. North Harbour will also be working in partnership and providing significant “in-kind” support through project planning, project management, post-construction operation and maintenance.

Retaining and preserving the historical remnants of the site has been an important part of the North Harbour planning process. The area has been listed and protected on the Queensland Heritage Register since 2011 as a place of Queensland State significance and will become part of an outdoor leisure space with pathways and tracks enabling use by the future residents and visitors.

The history of the site will be interpreted from a dedicated facility that delivers a ‘mind map’ of the site before it is experienced firsthand. The facility is proposed to present historic photographs, sketched and display objects which will allow visitors to appreciate the stories and significant developments from the past up to the present day.

Interpretation delivery will be provided in the landscape alongside a network of heritage trails and using static signage as well as digital content for mobile devices. The delivery of interpretation will be aimed at school-aged students as well as local, state and international visitors learning about local history and South Sea Islander heritage.
