Halloween for the Unprepared, Top 10 Scary Movies & Trick or Treating for Tinies at North Harbour

With the kids safely back at school, you might have been fooled into thinking you’ve got a bit of breathing space before Christmas, but NO! First it’s time to get ready for Halloween!

Trick or treat at North Harbour

If, like me, you completely forgot about it until you were visually assaulted by Halloween decorations whilst trying to buy petrol you might be slightly underprepared. But, fear not! I swung into action with my Halloween spotify playlist for inspiration to assemble the Working Mum’s Guide to Halloween – what movies to watch, what’s on around North Harbour and the best YouTube pumpkin carving guides. I may or may not have also done the Monster Mash.

Halloween Events

First up is Caboolture’s Halloween Twilight Market on Saturday 28th October from 4-9pm. Prizes for best costume and best stall plus the opportunity to sneak in some shopping whilst pretending to be in the Halloween spirit (bad Halloween Mum pun).  See more here.

Next is, Bunnings at Morayfield! Believe it or not, not only is Bunnings completely awesome for all your home and hardware needs – it also hits the nail on the head (more Mum puns) where free Halloween events are concerned. Bunnings Morayfield is holding two free workshops for kids’ Halloween tattoos on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th and hosting a free Halloween Disco & Workshop Disco with face painting, fun games, craft workshop, a prize for Best Dressed Halloween Costume (All Ages), fairy floss, slushies and free sausage sizzle on Halloween from 6pm-8pm. Bookings are essential, for information, check out their page here.

If you want to up the scare factor, Caboolture Historical Village is getting proper spooky with its “Ghoulies & Ghosties Halloween” Ghost Train and Tour 6:30pm-8:30pm on Tuesday 31st. Entry is $5 each for adults and kids and also includes food and games. For more click here.

If these three aren’t quite what you’re after, check the this week’s Moreton Region Blog here for more creepy ideas.

And, if your kids are keen on trick or treating on Halloween, the North Harbour neighbourhood rule is – Porch light On, the household is participating, Porch Light Off, they’re not participating. If your little ones would like to trick or treat but are too small for a late night, we’ll have Halloween lollies for tiny trick or treaters (and big ones!) at the Sales Office from 3pm-5pm on Tuesday 31st.

Movies for Halloween

If you prefer to stay in for Halloween we’ve gathered some movie options to enjoy. Firstly five Kid-Friendly Suggestions.

1 – Hocus Pocus: The best Halloween film ever. Fact.

2 – Hotel Transylvania 1 and 2: Worth watching for the giggling sponge

3 – The Witches: Might encourage them to read Roald Dahl afterwards

4 – The Addams Family: An oldie but goodie

5 – Casper: Prepare tissues

And if you’re looking for something to scare yourself silly when the kids are in bed below are the sales team’s top 10 scary film picks.

1. The Shining: My number one, guaranteed to wet myself film. My toddler even used to give me goosebumps when she rode her little trike around the house. Shudder.

2. The Exorcist: Linda Blair rotating her head and puking green soup? Nasty.

3. Poltergiest: The title says it all.

4. Childs Play: Scary doll containing a murderer…guaranteed doll fear forever.

5. Nightmare on Elm Street: Even the poster in the video shop used to scare the living daylights out of me.

6. The Ring: You’ll be screaming, “If you know you’re going to die, why are you watching it?!” at the TV

7. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Never relax on a back-country road again

8. Halloween: Madman in a mask, with a knife

9. It: The start of many a clown phobia

10. The Birds: Especially poignant in magpie swapping season

Park Side Property for Sale, Registered & Ready to Build on Now!

Our North Harbour neighbourhood is home to a close-knit community of people from all walks of life from families large and small, to first home buyers and those looking to downsize.

Park Side Property for Sale

In fact, our downsizer group is one of our community’s most vocal supporters as buyers looking for property for sale in this group tend to have researched thoroughly for a significant period of time prior to deciding to move to North Harbour. We recently did a series of video interviews with some of our residents and Max, a downsizer who looked around for years before choosing our neighbourhood, told us his Top 5 favourite things about living here: “Position, quality of the area, infrastructure – what’s coming and has already started, good value for money and we’ve got real sense of community, a relaxed family atmosphere.

There are always kids in the park, kids getting outside and having a good time.”

We’re really pleased to hear how much our residents are enjoying our parks as there are plenty more on the way! The Village Park is open now, Reflections will open shortly, Riparian will open mid-2018 and we have several more scheduled in further stages including our Heritage Precinct which will include river access. On completion, North Harbour will offer our residents a proposed 1000 acres of open space and parklands – a huge area of green, eco-corridors comparable to the size of the Brisbane CBD.

If you’re looking for property for sale, we currently have available park side land near Reflections and Riparian Parks which is already registered and can be built on as soon as purchase is completed. Our park side land for sale is perfect for our downsizing residents as it is quiet, has tree views overlooking our Raff Creek eco-corridor and provides access to walking and bike tracks – perfect for keeping active. These blocks are slightly higher to take advantage of the view and our corner blocks have space to keep a caravan/ campervan or boat. An obvious advantage of building a new home when you’re looking to downsize is including what you need and ditching what you don’t! Don’t want stairs? Build a single-storey! Don’t want a garden? Pave it over or go astroturf!

Kids playing on the playground

Reflections Park will open shortly and is located on the south-western side of North Harbour just south of Stages 15 and 16 (which have available lots). It will include play equipment for young children (great for when the grandkids visit), BBQs and shelters as well as exercise equipment in fitness stations which will provide our residents with the opportunity for free workouts in beautiful, tree-lined surroundings.

Our third park, Riparian Park, will include play equipment aimed at older kids such as a flying fox and basketball half court. It will also incorporate shelters, BBQs and fitness equipment. Riparian Park will start construction in late 2017 for completion early to mid-2018.
