Celebrate Father’s Day, Upcoming Community Events & More with Us!

Welcome to this week’s North Harbour Blog. As usual we’re pretty busy! Our construction team has been busy working on our second park, Reflections Park, which is scheduled to open in October. We’re also putting the last few things in place for our upcoming Spring Fair on September 16th and Linda, our Community Events Coordinator, has her planning hat on as we look into putting on some Expos in the Sales Office.

Happy Father's day animation

But, most importantly, we’re looking forward to celebrating Father’s Day next Sunday 3rd September. If, like us, you’re not quite sure what to do for Dad, we’ve put together some ideas of what’s on in and around our beautiful Moreton Bay Region.

Father’s Day

Father’s Day dates at least as far back as the Middle Ages where it was first celebrated as the feast day of St Joseph (Jesus’ earthly father and therefore a super famous Dad!).

Father’s Day as we know it was not celebrated (outside Catholic traditions) until the 20th century. As a civic celebration in the US, it was inaugurated in the early 20th century to complement Mother’s Day. The first observance of a “Father’s Day” was held on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia, in the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South, now known as Central United Methodist Church. Grace Golden Clayton was mourning the loss of her father, when in December 1907, the Monongah Mining Disaster in nearby Monongah killed 361 men, 250 of them fathers, leaving around a thousand fatherless children. Clayton suggested that her pastor Robert Thomas Webb honour all those fathers.

Clayton’s event did not take off outside Fairmont and the day was not celebrated again for many years despite several attempts to get a “Father’s Day” celebration recognised. In fact, despite three US Presidents trying to make Father’s Day a nationally celebrated holiday it took a fourth, President Richard Nixon, to get it through Congress and the day was made a permanent national holiday when he signed it into law in 1972.

Father’s Day Community Events

Community Events

As always in our lovely Moreton Bay Shire, there are heaps of community events happening to offer a great way to celebrate our fantastic fathers.

Our community partner Caboolture Sports Club is the place to be for hungry Dads this Father’s Day with not only a Buffet Brekkie and Spit Roast Lunch but also a Mixed Grill Special for lunch or dinner! Grab your stretchy pants and head to http://www.cabsports.com.au/whats-on/fathers-day/ for more details.

If Dad is a car afficianodo then look no further than All Aussie Father’s Day. This a family friendly event aimed at celebrating all things Australian, including our love for great cars. Grab Dad and bring your pride and joy down to Lakeside Park- Kurwongbah, for a day of track cruising, track challenge, show n’ shine, face painting for the kids, trade stands and Aussie food. It’s sure to be a great day out.

9.00am – 4.30pm at Lakeside Park – Lakeside Rd, Kurwongbah. Click here for more information.

If Dad is into a more laid-back vibes, then a visit to Scarborough Sounds is the perfect way for the whole family to spend Father’s Day afternoon. On Sunday, September 3rd, join us at Scarborough Beach Park from 4pm-8pm for an incredible evening of musical entertainment. Best of all, the event is FREE to attend. Bring your own picnic or treat yourself to some gourmet market food, spread out a blanket, and enjoy a musical feast framed against the stunning Scarborough foreshore. http://www.visitmoretonbayregion.com.au/whats-on/events/scarborough-sounds

What’s On at North Harbour

Community Events

You might have seen our intrepid videographer around the neighbourhood this week, filming several of our brave residents who have agreed to act as “North Harbour Ambassadors”. The videos are currently in the editing suite and will be appearing on a website, Facebook page and advertising near you, soon. Thank you to everyone who has lent their support to this project – meeting everyone during the filming process was great fun and I’m not just saying that because of the cake and sandwiches.

We’re on schedule to be completed and ready to open in October, so keep an eye on our Facebook page for event details.

If you missed the Ekka, or spent all your money on showbags – never fear, our Spring Fair is going to be awesome (and a lot cheaper) with free rides, entertainment and demos from our community partners!

2pm: The day begins at 2pm with lots of free things to see and do including roving entertainment, music from The Ja Joint, trackless train rides, petting zoo, climbing wall and a jumping castle as well as food and drinks available to purchase

3pm: Caboolture Touch Association footy demo

3:30pm: Farmyard Friends live show

4pm: Meet the Moreton Bay Lions Mascot, Rex

He hatches one final plan to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition. Five contestants emerge: a mouse, a timid elephant, a pig, a gorilla and a punk-rock porcupine.

Please bring blankets and/or chairs – popcorn and water will be available

7:45pm: The evening’s event will finish with a big bang firework display

We’ll be posting updates on our Event Facebook page so for more information click here.

Community Buzz from Linda, our Community & Event Coordinator

Valeco Homes

Thank you to everyone who came and visited the North Harbour stand at the Deception Bay Little Athletics sign on evening and The Lakes College Fun Run last week. I’m really enjoying getting to know everyone in the community as I take our pop up information stand out and about!

As well as “popping up” at some local events we’ve also recently welcomed two groups to use our boardroom for their meetings: Burpengary East Neighbourhood Watch and BPW Caboolture. If you are part of a community group and are looking for a space to meet, please contact me regarding availability.

Fitness Bootcamps at the Village Park continue to be a great success and I can recommend them highly for anyone looking to get fit. Local fitness guru Cam Smith runs several sessions a week and your first session is free! For more info contact Cam on 0403 932 060 or visit www.cam-fit.com.

Speaking of the Village Park, you may have noticed the lovely new community noticeboard there. Feel free to pop your notice in to the Sales Office and we will happily post it for you.

On a final note: as a welcome gift to our residents on moving day, we provide a pizza voucher for Divine Pizza & Pasta (located at the Burpengary Hub) to save you digging through boxes to find cutlery and plates! If you’ve moved in, but haven’t had your voucher, or if you’re about to move in, please pop into the Sales Centre to grab a voucher. The sales team can attest to the deliciousness of the pizzas…mmmm pizza!
