The Community events at North Harbour are starting to ramp up!

How good has the weather been this week?! We’ve had a lovely start to Spring at North Harbour with our first Residents community picnic. We’re also loving how many milestones our region is hitting – new railway line, new bike path, International Garden Show…go Northside!

We at North Harbour consider ourselves extremely lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. The Moreton Bay Region pretty much has it all, amazing natural beauty from beach to mountains to river, heaps to enjoy from markets to fashionable boutiques, museums and art galleries and high-end restaurants to the world’s best fish n chips…and so much more.

So this week’s blog is all about celebrating our awesome community and living in this beautiful part of the world. Although a brand new community, North Harbour is already home to over 80 families with many more currently building their new homes. To celebrate our community and welcome everyone who has purchased our land for sale and lives with us (currently or will in the near future) we threw our first Picnic in the Park event.

This inaugural free community picnic in the Village Park gave everyone a chance to catch up with their neighbours and enjoy some hospitality on us. Kids (of all ages!) enjoyed a bouncy castle, animal nursery, give-aways, face painting and entertainment as well as the excellent play equipment in the Village Park. Thank you to everyone who came and celebrated with us, we were fortunate to have great weather and it was good to meet so many of our new residents.

There have also been some major milestones and events in our gorgeous Moreton Bay Region in the past week. The Petrie-Redcliffe bikeway has opened, the Redcliffe train line has opened and Strathpine welcomed back the Brisbane International Garden Show.

Queensland’s newest railway is up and operational, with the $1 billion Redcliffe Peninsula Line opening for its first day of service without a hitch. The new 12.6-kilometre dual track runs from Kippa-Ring to Petrie, where it connects with existing Queensland Rail infrastructure.

Queensland Rail spokesman Martin Ryan said officials would closely monitor passenger numbers on its new Redcliffe line to ensure services met demand.

“We’re going to take over the next two weeks the numbers and look at the counts and see what is that redistribution of travellers, but also we’re expecting a lot of growth out of this region, people that travel on rail that had not travelled on rail before because it hasn’t been available,” Mr Ryan said. “We’ll know in the next two weeks what sort of numbers we can expect.”

Mr Ryan said during off-peak times, trains were scheduled to run every 30 minutes, but that during peak times there would be a train every 12 minutes. “There’s over 100 trains that service the Kippa-Ring station, 55 in, 55 out on most days, from 3:46 in the morning to midnight,” he said.

The trip from Kippa-Ring to Central station takes 55 minutes. Plans for a railway to the Redcliffe region have been on and off the drawing boards since 1885 – 131 years ago. The railway was funded by the Australian Government, Queensland Government, and the Moreton Bay Regional Council.

You can also use cycle power to get to explore the Redcliffe trail now. The new Petrie to Redcliffe Brisbane bikeways shared path is 3m wide, offering plenty of space to accommodate all types of users – walkers, cyclists, scooter riders, skaters, skateboarders, joggers, pram pushers, motorised wheelchair users, mobility scooter users, and of course furry, four legged, (leashed) friends.

The shared pathway stretches 12.6km from Petrie to Kippa-Ring (a round trip of 25.2km), running parallel to the Moreton Bay Rail Link passing through Kallangur, Murrumba Downs, Mango Hill and Rothwell. This wonderful Brisbane bikeways shared path features colourful murals created by talented local artists. You can expect to happen across art depicting Australian native wildlife, special ANZAC tribute pieces, and historical commemorative works such as the former Petrie Paper Mill’s mural. Moreton Bay has also played host to the 2016 Brisbane International Garden Show which was held over four days at Pine Rivers Park, Strathpine on 6-9 October. It showcased displays which conveyed the unique Queensland gardening style and brought together landscape gardening displays for both large and smaller gardens and with expert talks, workshops, not to mention dozens of nurseries all showing off the unique Queensland gardening style.
Special focus this year was on sustainability with special displays and workshops around the Organic Kitchen Garden theme, Landscape Garden Displays and loads for kids to encourage little budding horticulturalists.
