Moving to Brisbane is becoming an ever-popular choice for those struggling to get onto the property ladder, largely due to the comparable unaffordability of many of Australia’s major cities, Sydney and Melbourne in particular.
And people are moving for more than purely financial reasons with quality of life also cited as a major factor for moving to Brisbane. Queensland’s capital has great liveability ratings, in fact a new study by realestate.com.au has confirmed that life in Brisbane is actually far better than Melbourne, a city which regularly tops world polls of “most liveable cities”.
REA Group chief economist Nerida Conisbee said she wasn’t at all surprised to see Brisbane dominating the REA’s most liveable list. “We’ve always known Brisbane does have so many amazing lifestyle elements to it, but this proves it,” she said.
Ms Conisbee argued Melbourne was beginning to lose its liveability appeal due to population growth and infrastructure bottlenecks, whereas homes for sale in Brisbane offer great value for money in a capital city where property is still affordable.
The median house price in Sydney is a whopping $996,000, while the median house price in North Harbour’s suburb of Burpengary East is almost half that at a much more affordable $538,000. The cost of living in Brisbane is also 12% lower than in Sydney, which gives home buyers more spare cash to spend on enjoying life in and around our beautiful Moreton Bay Region.
“The affordability (at North Harbour) has meant I can be a stay at home Mum. We emigrated from the UK and looked at moving to Sydney or Melbourne, but the affordability and lifestyle are so much better here.” – Rachel
First Home Buyers also get a great hand onto the property ladder in Queensland with the First Home Buyers Grant currently standing at $20,000 for buying brand new homes for sale in Brisbane. (For more information on the First Home Buyers Grant click here).

North Harbour differs from similarly sized southeast Queensland developments in that on completion we will offer a huge 1000 acres of open space and parklands (even larger than Central Park in New York) including environmental corridors, river access and a unique $3m heritage precinct (currently under construction).
The proposed 1000 acres of open space and parklands include walking and bike tracks, lots of trees (almost 60,000 have already been planted) and plenty of play equipment for young and older kids, BBQs, artworks and picnic areas as well as exercise equipment. North Harbour has two parks open already, another will open in 2019 and also offers weekly free events which are open to everyone in the community including parkrun and Sunrise Yoga.
“We chose North Harbour because the affordability of the land meant we could customise to get exactly what we wanted in a full turnkey package.” – Zac
