markets in North Harbour

In this week’s Blog I’m going to focus on something which is a favourite topic of mine…SHOPPING!

markets in North Harbour
One of the major things North Harbour has going for us is our excellent location on the growing Northside of Brisbane. Not only is our suburb of Burpengary East recognised as one of the top “bang for your buck” suburbs in Brisbane (thank you Channel 9), our close proximity to major global shopping identities such as Costco and IKEA mean we’re ideally placed to enjoy some of Brisbane’s best shopping opportunities.

And while our neighbouring suburb of North Lakes is reaching capacity we have plenty of Home and Land Packages North Lakes style available for sale. In fact, many of our residents were referred to us by our friends at North Lakes when they visited looking for Home and Land Packages at North Lakes.

North Lakes shopping centre has recently had a major refurbishment and now has not only all the major shopping brands but also a cinema and outdoor dining precinct. With the Easter holidays coming up, this is a definite plus to have on our doorstep.

And, if you prefer to do your shopping al fresco, you’re in luck as the Moreton Bay Region also boasts some seriously lovely markets. Our closest is Burpengary market which is held at the State School every Saturday.

Well worth a visit, this friendly market has it all: Artists, hand crafts, food, fruit and veg, toys, plants, clothes, brick a brac and much more. There are even regular buskers to entertain you as you browse.

  • When: Every Saturday 7am – 1pm

One of the largest local markets is about 15 minutes north west of North Harbour at Caboolture. Held every Sunday, the Caboolture Country Markets holds over 500 stalls including food, plants, fruit, vegetables, art, craft, new clothing, footwear, computers and general bric-a-brac. It’s a huge event and well worth a visit – make sure you take a hat, water and a comfortable pair of shoes…it’s massive and you’ll probably need more than one visit to get it all in.

Slightly further north are the three Sunday markets on Bribie Island, approximately half an hour’s drive away and well worth the trip. These markets are the place to buy art, accessories, adult clothing, bric-a-brac, books and magazines, belts, children’s clothing, crystal, cushions, cacti, cakes, drinks, dolls and much more. We recommend enjoying lunch at Saviges or Sandstone Point Hotel on your way home…tried and tested by the North Harbour team of tummies!

Also about 30 minutes south east, on the opposite side of Deception Bay, and this time on a Saturday, are the Handmade Redcliffe Markets. Made with love is the motto of these markets. Enjoy an ambient atmosphere with live music, delicious food and stunning handmade products that excite the soul. Indoor markets and food, craft, fruit, vegetables, plants, bric-a-brac.

There’s also heaps going on further south. Just 20 minutes from North Harbour is Old Petrie Town Market. Selling arts, retro wares, jewellery and antiques, crafts, plants, homemade treats, fruit and vegetables and plenty of food the Old Town also houses a selection of boutiques, a working blacksmith, pottery and plenty to see and do every Sunday such as horse rides, bouncy castle, face painting, massage and even psychics! Well worth a visit and wear stretchy pants – there are a lot of gorgeous food opportunities from German sausages to Thai food and waffles as well as samples to try from the local cheese and rum factories.

Old Petrie Town – Dayboro Road, Kurwongbah

Also to the south are the Strathpine State School Flea Markets. Another sizable weekly event, with all-weather market indoor and outdoor stalls. This market offers haircuts, massage, food and drink, music, lots of trash and treasure, arts and crafts, hardware, plants and much, much more!

Strathpine State School Flea Markets , Pine Rivers Showgrounds – 757 Gympie Road, Lawnton

And finally, further inland is the Wamuran Country Markets. It’s a longer but very beautiful drive to get there, about 30 minutes from North Harbour and well worth a visit, maybe on the way to lunch at Woodford. Enjoy a BBQ and cake stall run by the Wamuran Men’s Shed, Devonshire teas on the verandah of the Old Wamuran School, pre-loved books, 2nd hand stalls, fresh locally-grown fruit and vegies, herb seedlings, jams and pickles/relishes, lots of crafts and plants, cakes and slices and much more. Come along for a browse, buy your supplies and gifts, and have a feed and a cuppa in the fun and friendly atmosphere.
